Privacy Policy

The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run the show — your email if you make an account, the material you submit, and the episodes we generate from it. We don't sell your data, we don't run ads, and episodes auto-delete after about 30 days. Ash wanted this section to be one word ("relax"), but lawyers exist.
What we collect
- Account info. If you create an account: your email address and a salted hash of your password (we never store the password itself).
- Your material. The text you paste or upload (essays, bios, pitches, and so on) so the hosts can generate your episode and study tools.
- Generated content. The episodes, audio, clips, and study kits created from your material.
- Usage data. Basic events (episode created, paywall viewed), a random device identifier for free-tier limits, and IP-derived rate-limit counters. No advertising identifiers, no cross-site tracking.
- Payments. Handled entirely by Stripe (web) or Apple (iOS app). We never see or store your card details — we only learn whether your subscription is active.
How your material is processed
Episodes are generated by sending your submitted text to our AI service providers — Anthropic (script writing and moderation) and ElevenLabs (voice audio) — under their commercial API terms. Your material is used to produce your episode, not to train our models. Everything you submit passes an automated moderation check first; material about private individuals or outside our house rules is refused.
Retention and deletion
- Episodes, audio, and clips are automatically deleted from our servers approximately 30 days after creation.
- You can delete your account at any time from the account sheet in the app (Delete account). This permanently removes your email, password hash, and billing links, and cancels any active web subscription. If you subscribed on iOS, also cancel the subscription in your iPhone Settings → Subscriptions (Apple controls that billing relationship).
- Anonymized, aggregate statistics (like total episodes generated) may be retained.
What we share
Nothing is sold, rented, or shared for advertising. Data leaves our servers only to the processors that make the product work: Anthropic and ElevenLabs (generation), Stripe and Apple (payments, on their own privacy terms), and our hosting provider (Railway). We may disclose information if the law genuinely requires it.
Cookies
First-party cookies only: one to keep you logged in, one random identifier for free-tier limits. No third-party or advertising cookies.
Age
TORCHED is for users 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe a child has used the service, contact us and we'll delete the data.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. The in-app deletion covers most of it instantly; for anything else, email us and we'll handle it within 30 days.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll update the date above and note it in the app.
